District 8 is part of Area 1—Alabama/NW Florida Area. Area 1 is composed of the A.A. groups in Alabama and the panhandle of Florida. If you’re not sure what Area you’re in, ask your group’s G.S.R. (General Service Representative). Area 1 meets quarterly (typically January, April, July, and October) at the Ramada by Wyndham, Birmingham Airport in Birmingham, Alabama. The April Assembly is a pre-conference assembly, with breakout sessions and workshops devoted to the upcoming General Service Conference. Election Assemblies are held at the October assembly of even years. Come enjoy opportunities all weekend for Service, Unity, and Recovery. The coffee’s pretty good, too! All members of Alcoholics Anonymous in Area 1 (or visiting!) are invited and encouraged to attend the quarterly meeting of Area 1. Voting members of the Assembly for all votes of the Area conscience (Area Service Meeting) are:

• Group Service Representatives, or (in their absence) their alternates
• District Committee Members, or (in their absence) their alternates
• Area Committee Chairs, or (in their absence) their alternates
• Area Officers

Requirements to vote may differ in each of the standing committees, as well as the Agenda Committee, the DCM Committee, and the Intergroup/Central Office Liaison Committee. Please ask if you are unsure — asking for help is a GOOD thing.
